Add Component

Components are the building blocks of your plan, allowing you to capture at a higher level, the key activities which need to be executed in order to successfully complete a cutover.  Once the plan is progressed, these components will be supported by an underlying suite of stages which may reside in one or more Runbooks.

Components can be added across Timelanes and Swimlanes and are added to build out the shape of the High Level Plan. To add a Component to a Plan you can do so via the Add button.

On adding a Component you must provide a Title for the Component, a Swimlane, a Workstream, a Start Time and a Duration.

The Swimlane which is aligned to components is the lane where you want the activity to sit.

The Workstream which a component is aligned to determines the colouring that the Component takes. Workstreams are used to articulate the groups of activity across the plan, allowing for easy identification of who is responsible for that piece of work.

Owners can be aligned to a Component - these are seen to be the people who are responsible for the activity but not necessarily responsible for carrying out the activity.

Components do not need to be aligned to Timelanes as based on the Start Time and Duration provided the Component will fall into the relevant Timelane.

Once you have added the Components Details you can either add the one component or continue to add more.

The minimum duration a Component can have is 1 hour.

On adding your first component you will notice that a light blue count appears in the top left next to the Plans title. This is to highlight the number of components which have been added to the Plan but have not yet been mapped to any Stages or Runbooks. This count will decrease as the Components are mapped to the correct Runbooks and Stages.

To edit a Component, simply click on the Component to lauch the edit modal.
